Emotional MeditationâBy Micah Siemens
The march now reaches its crescendo: the mountains rise to meet the Lord as He ascends in victory. âO mountain of God, mountain of Bashan; O many-peaked mountain, mountain of Bashan!â The psalmist portrays a landscape transformed by triumphâheights become stages for Godâs glory, peaks echoing the march of His power. Even the hills participate, trembling with awe at the ascending Warrior-King.

Clouds and rainbows, cedars and peaks, all bow before the moving God. He does not merely conquer; He enthrones. âYou ascended on high, leading a host of captives in Your train.â Victory is processional. The spoils of triumphâcaptives, tribute, praiseâfollow Him like banners behind a marching army. The ascent is both literal and symbolic: God lifts the faithful, exalts the righteous, and claims His sovereign rule.
The psalmist emphasizes Godâs strength made manifest in history and worship: âYou have received gifts among men, even among the rebellious, that the Lord God may dwell there.â The march is not limited to battlefield glory; it brings order, presence, and sanctuary. Triumph transforms space, claiming mountains, valleys, and hearts for His dwelling. The ascent is liturgical as much as martial, a movement toward both power and peace.
Psalm 68:15â18 captures the majesty of the Lord enthroned. The march reaches upward, victory secured, the spoils of conquest collected, and the mountains themselves witness His glory. The Warrior-King moves not only over enemies but above creation, drawing all along in the rhythm of triumph, procession, and exaltation.
