Seek first the Kingdom of God…

I love to write! We are building a community of readers and writers that share a passion to seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and then everything else will follow. This is a place where we express our writing and imagination for His glory.

Emotional Meditation—By Micah Siemens

“O Lord, God of my salvation, I have cried out day and night before You” Psalm 88 opens with a heartfelt prayer from someone carrying a heavy burden. Unlike many psalms that move quickly toward praise and celebration, this one begins in deep sorrow. Yet even in his anguish, the psalmist addresses God as “the God of my salvation.” This small phrase reveals a remarkable faith. Though surrounded by darkness and pain, he has not abandoned hope in the Lord. Believers today often face seasons when prayers seem endless and answers appear delayed. This verse reminds us that faith is not the absence of struggle but the decision to continue bringing our struggles before God. Day and night, through tears and uncertainty, the Lord invites His children to come to Him with every concern.

“Let my prayer come before You; incline Your ear to my cry” The psalmist longs to know that God hears him. His words express a desire shared by countless believers throughout history. During difficult seasons, one of the greatest fears is that our prayers are going unnoticed. Yet Scripture consistently assures us that God listens to the cries of His people. Even when circumstances remain unchanged, the Lord is attentive to every prayer offered in faith. There are moments when heaven may seem silent, but silence does not mean absence. God remains near to the brokenhearted, listening with compassion and understanding. Every whispered prayer and every tear-filled plea is precious in His sight.

“For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to the grave” The psalmist speaks honestly about the depth of his suffering. He does not hide his pain behind religious language or pretend that everything is well. Instead, he brings his wounded heart openly before God. This honesty teaches believers an important lesson about prayer. The Lord does not require polished words or carefully managed emotions. He welcomes truth. When hearts are overwhelmed by grief, disappointment, fear, or exhaustion, God invites His people to come exactly as they are. Genuine faith does not deny hardship; it entrusts hardship to the One who understands every sorrow.

“I am counted with those who go down to the pit; I am like a man who has no strength” Here the psalmist describes complete weakness. His resources have been exhausted, and he feels unable to carry the weight of his circumstances any longer. Many believers can relate to moments when they feel emotionally, physically, or spiritually depleted. Yet Scripture repeatedly reminds us that God’s strength is often displayed most clearly when human strength fails. When we reach the limits of our own ability, we are invited to lean more fully upon the Lord. The God who sustains the universe is able to sustain weary hearts, providing grace for each day and strength for every step.

“Adrift among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom You remember no more, and who are cut off from Your hand” The psalmist expresses feelings of abandonment and isolation. While these emotions were very real to him, they did not define the ultimate reality of God’s relationship with him. God’s people may sometimes feel forgotten, especially during prolonged seasons of suffering, but feelings are not always faithful indicators of truth. Throughout Scripture, God assures His children that He never forsakes those who belong to Him. Even when His presence seems hidden, His care remains constant. The believer’s security rests not in fluctuating emotions but in the steadfast character of a faithful God.

Psalm 88:1–5 offers comfort to those walking through difficult valleys. It reminds us that God welcomes honest prayers, listens to troubled hearts, and remains near to those who feel overwhelmed. The psalmist’s willingness to bring his deepest pain before the Lord encourages believers to do the same. While sorrow may be part of the journey, it is never the final destination for those who trust in God. The One who hears every cry is also the One who holds every life in His hands. Even in the darkest night, His grace is sufficient, His presence is real, and His salvation remains sure.
