Seek first the Kingdom of God…

I love to write! We are building a community of readers and writers that share a passion to seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and then everything else will follow. This is a place where we express our writing and imagination for His glory.

Emotional Meditation—By Micah Siemens

“I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make Your faithfulness known through all generations” This beginning of this Psalm is a breath of fresh air compared to the journey of struggle and grief we covered in the Columns of Psalm 88. Psalm 89 opens not with a focus on present circumstances but on the unchanging character of God. The psalmist anchors his heart in the steadfast love and faithfulness of the Lord, truths that remain secure even when life feels uncertain. Believers often face seasons when emotions fluctuate and circumstances shift unexpectedly, yet God’s covenant love does not change. To sing of His love is more than an act of praise; it is a declaration of trust. By remembering God’s faithfulness in the past, we find strength to trust Him with the future.

“I will declare that Your love stands firm forever, that You have established Your faithfulness in heaven itself” The psalmist describes God’s love as something firmly established, immovable and enduring. Human promises can fail, and earthly foundations can crumble, but God’s faithfulness is as secure as the heavens He created. In a world marked by instability and disappointment, this truth offers deep comfort. The Lord’s purposes are not threatened by changing circumstances, nor are His promises weakened by human weakness. What He has spoken remains true, and what He has promised He will surely accomplish.

“You said, ‘I have made a covenant with My chosen one, I have sworn to David My servant’” Here the psalmist recalls God’s covenant, a solemn promise established by divine grace. God’s relationship with His people is not based upon fleeting emotions or temporary commitments but upon His own faithful word. Throughout Scripture, the Lord repeatedly demonstrates that He remembers His promises even when His people struggle to remember Him. This covenant faithfulness reaches its fullest expression in Jesus Christ, through whom believers are welcomed into the assurance of God’s everlasting love and redeeming grace.

“I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations” These words point beyond David to the eternal King whom God would provide. Earthly kingdoms rise and fall, but the reign of God’s chosen King endures forever. For believers, this promise is a source of lasting hope. No matter how uncertain the world may appear, Christ remains on the throne. His rule is not temporary, and His kingdom cannot be shaken. The faithfulness that God promised centuries ago continues to be displayed through the saving work and eternal reign of His Son.

Psalm 89 begins by directing our attention away from the instability of life and toward the reliability of God. The psalmist teaches us that worship often begins with remembrance—remembering who God is, what He has promised, and how faithfully He has acted throughout history. When doubts arise and circumstances seem difficult to understand, believers can return to these truths with confidence. The God whose love stands firm forever remains the same today. His faithfulness reaches across every generation, sustaining His people and giving them reason to sing even in the midst of uncertainty.
