“Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him” The psalmist once again calls God’s people to lift their voices in fresh praise, not because God has changed, but because His mercies are continually new. The “new song” is born from renewed wonder at the marvelous works of the Lord. His mighty hand has accomplished what no human strength could ever achieve, bringing salvation through His sovereign power and unfailing grace. Every act of redemption, every answered prayer, every evidence of His faithful care reminds us that our God is still at work. Hearts that remember His marvelous deeds cannot remain silent, for gratitude naturally overflows into joyful worship.
“The LORD has made known his salvation; he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations” God’s saving work has never been intended to remain hidden. His righteousness is openly displayed through His faithful acts of redemption, revealing both His justice and His mercy. Throughout history He has shown Himself to be the God who keeps His promises, delivers His people, and accomplishes His purposes with perfect wisdom. This salvation reaches its fullest expression in Jesus Christ, through whom God’s righteousness and grace shine with unmatched glory. The message of salvation is not reserved for a select few but proclaimed for all peoples, inviting every heart to behold the faithfulness of the Lord and respond with trusting faith.
“He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel” These words beautifully remind us that God’s covenant love never fades with time. When Scripture says that God “remembered,” it does not suggest that He had forgotten, but that He acted in accordance with His faithful promises. His steadfast love endures through every generation, remaining constant despite the changing circumstances of His people. The Lord’s faithfulness is not dependent upon human worthiness but upon His own unchanging character. Even when His children struggle, wander, or grow weary, His covenant mercies continue to pursue them. We serve a God whose promises are as certain today as they were when they were first spoken, and whose love remains steadfast through every season of life.
“All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God” The vision of the psalm extends far beyond Israel, embracing the whole world with the hope of God’s redeeming grace. The Lord’s desire has always been that His salvation would be known among every nation, tribe, and language. What began as promises to His covenant people now reaches outward to all who will believe. The gospel continues to carry this joyful proclamation across the earth, inviting every person to find forgiveness, peace, and eternal life through the God who saves. As recipients of such amazing grace, we are also called to be faithful witnesses, joyfully declaring His salvation so that others may come to know and worship Him.
Psalm 98:1–3 calls us to remember the marvelous works of the Lord and to respond with lives filled with worship, gratitude, and confident hope. His mighty power has secured our salvation, His righteousness has been revealed for all to see, and His steadfast love remains unchanged through every generation. When we fix our hearts upon His faithfulness, our praise becomes fresh, our confidence grows stronger, and our witness becomes more joyful. May we never lose our sense of wonder at the greatness of our Redeemer, but continue to sing a new song to the Lord, rejoicing in His marvelous salvation and proclaiming His unfailing love until the ends of the earth join in His everlasting praise.
