Emotional Meditation By Micah Siemens
“Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the Lord” Psalm 107 ends with an invitation to stop, pay attention, and reflect on what God has done. The psalm has taken us through deserts and storms, hunger and abundance, suffering and restoration, and now it calls us to recognize the thread running through every season: the steadfast love of the Lord. It is easy to remember the painful moments and forget the faithfulness of God that carried us through them. We can become so focused on what went wrong that we overlook the ways God provided, protected, strengthened, and sustained us. Perhaps you are walking through a season where you cannot yet understand what God is doing. You may not have answers for every disappointment, but you can still look back and remember His faithfulness. Wisdom begins when we learn to pay attention to the ways God has been present, even in seasons when His presence was difficult to recognize.

The verse says, “Let them consider the steadfast love of the Lord.” To consider means more than briefly noticing; it means to reflect deeply and allow what we have seen of God to shape our hearts. The stories throughout this psalm remind us that God’s love is not limited to the moments when life goes according to our plans. His steadfast love meets people in their wandering, their distress, their weakness, their failure, and their need. Sometimes we understand His goodness only in retrospect. A door that closed may later reveal itself as protection. A difficult season may eventually become a place where our faith grew deeper. A prayer that seemed unanswered may have been part of a work we could not yet see. This does not make every painful experience easy, nor does it mean that every loss has an explanation we can discover. But it does remind us that God’s character remains steady when our circumstances are not. When you do not know what to make of your present season, begin with what you already know about the Lord: His love is steadfast, His mercy is faithful, and He has not forgotten you.
Psalm 107:43 leaves us with a beautiful challenge: “Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things.” In other words, do not rush past what God has taught you. Remember His faithfulness. Treasure the lessons He has written into your story. Tell the next generation what He has done. When life becomes difficult again, let yesterday’s evidence of God’s goodness strengthen today’s faith. Perhaps you are in a season where you need to look back before you can look forward. Take time to remember the prayers God answered, the strength He supplied, the people He sent, the dangers He carried you through, and the grace that sustained you when you thought you could not continue. You may not understand every chapter, but you can still recognize the faithfulness of the Author. The final word of Psalm 107 is not a command to understand everything; it is an invitation to remember God’s steadfast love. And when we learn to see His faithfulness in the story behind us, we can face the unknown ahead with renewed confidence in the God who will remain faithful in every season.
