Seek first the Kingdom of God…

I love to write! We are building a community of readers and writers that share a passion to seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and then everything else will follow. This is a place where we express our writing and imagination for His glory.

Emotional Meditation—By Micah Siemens

“I will listen to what God the Lord says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants—but let them not turn to folly” After the cries for restoration earlier in the psalm, the tone now becomes quieter and more attentive. The psalmist moves from speaking to God toward listening for Him. There are moments in life when the heart becomes overwhelmed by noise—anxiety about the future, regret over the past, and the constant pressure of daily burdens. In those seasons, people often search desperately for reassurance, yet true peace cannot be manufactured through distraction, achievement, or control. The peace God offers is deeper than temporary emotional relief; it is the steady assurance of His presence with His people. Yet the verse also carries a gentle warning. Hearts that continually return to destructive patterns, pride, or self-reliance often drift away from the peace they long to experience. God’s voice still calls His people toward trust, humility, and surrender. Many weary souls are not longing for easy circumstances as much as they are longing for inner rest. This verse reminds believers that the Lord still speaks peace over anxious hearts willing to listen for Him.

“Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land” The psalmist offers a beautiful assurance that God is not distant from those who seek Him reverently. There are seasons when people feel abandoned by hope itself, wondering whether God’s help will ever truly arrive. Pain, disappointment, and prolonged uncertainty can make salvation seem far away. Yet Scripture repeatedly points to the nearness of God even in humanity’s darkest moments. His salvation is not merely a future promise reserved for eternity; it is also His sustaining presence in present weakness. Many believers quietly carry fears they rarely speak aloud—fears about loss, failure, loneliness, or spiritual inadequacy. But the psalm gently reminds the heart that God draws near to those who continue turning toward Him. Reverence for God is not rooted in terror, but in trusting dependence upon His mercy and goodness. Even when circumstances remain difficult, His nearness becomes a refuge for tired souls.

Ultimately, Psalm 85:8–9 reveals the comforting relationship between God’s peace and God’s presence. The world often leaves people emotionally exhausted, spiritually distracted, and inwardly restless. Many continue through life carrying invisible burdens while longing for stability deep within the soul. These verses invite believers to pause long enough to listen again for the voice of God—the voice that still speaks peace to fearful hearts and hope to discouraged spirits. The Lord’s salvation remains near to those who seek Him, even when emotions fluctuate and answers seem delayed. His glory dwelling among His people points to the beautiful reality that God desires closeness, not distance. For weary hearts searching for reassurance, Psalm 85:8–9 gently reminds us that divine peace is not found in escaping life’s difficulties, but in drawing near to the God who remains faithfully near to His people.
