Emotional Meditation By Micah Siemens
“Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord!” Psalm 113 begins with a call to praise, repeated with a sense of urgency and joy. The psalmist does not invite only those whose lives are peaceful or whose hearts are free from worry to praise the Lord. He calls the servants of the Lord, those who belong to Him and have come to know His faithfulness, to lift their voices in worship. Notice that the call is not simply to praise what God has done, but to praise His name. His name reveals who He is: His goodness, His holiness, His mercy, and His unfailing love. There are seasons when praise comes easily, when answered prayers fill our hearts with gratitude and the goodness of God seems unmistakable. But there are also days when sorrow weighs heavily upon us, when prayers seem unanswered and we struggle to understand the path before us. Even then, the Lord remains worthy of praise. Our circumstances may change, our emotions may rise and fall, and our understanding may be limited, but the character of God remains steadfast. To praise His name is to turn our hearts toward the One who has never ceased to be faithful.

“Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and forevermore!” The psalmist moves from a call to praise to a declaration that God’s name is blessed forever. The words “from this time forth” bring worship into the present moment. We do not have to wait until every difficulty has passed, every question has been answered, or every burden has been lifted before we begin to bless the Lord. We can praise Him here, in the middle of our ordinary days, in the quietness of our homes, in the weariness of our hearts, and even through tears that others may never see. Yet the psalmist also looks beyond the present and declares that God’s name will be praised “forevermore.” Our lives are brief, and the seasons through which we pass are often uncertain, but the worthiness of God does not fade with time. The One we worship today is the same Lord who was faithful to His people long before we were born and who will remain faithful long after our earthly journey has ended. What a comfort it is to know that our hope rests in the eternal God. When the strength we once depended upon begins to fail and the things we thought would last begin to change, His name remains a firm foundation beneath our feet.
“From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!” With these words, the psalmist stretches our vision across the whole day, from the first light of morning to the fading colors of evening. Every sunrise offers a new opportunity to remember the goodness of God, and every sunset gives us another reason to rest in His care. Praise is not meant to be confined to a particular place, a special gathering, or a moment when everything feels right. It belongs in the ordinary rhythms of life. We can praise Him as we begin a new day with its responsibilities and uncertainties, as we labor through hours of difficulty, and as we lay down our concerns at night. Sometimes our praise will be expressed in joyful singing; at other times, it may be no more than a whispered prayer: “Lord, help me trust You.” There are days when simply continuing to walk with God is an act of worship, especially when our hearts are tired and the road ahead is unclear. The rising and setting of the sun remind us that the whole day belongs to Him. He is present in our beginnings and our endings, in the moments that bring us delight and in those we wish we could forget. Wherever the day takes us, His name remains worthy of our praise.
These three verses invite us to build a life shaped by the praise of God. We are called to praise His name, to bless Him now and forever, and to recognize His worthiness from the beginning of the day to its end. The psalmist does not tell us that every day will be easy or that faith will always come without struggle. Rather, he directs our attention away from the uncertainty of our circumstances and toward the unchanging greatness of our Lord. When grief enters our lives, His name is still worthy. When we are waiting for an answer, His name is still worthy. When we look back upon years of His sustaining grace, His name is still worthy. And when we cannot see what tomorrow holds, we can trust the One who already holds tomorrow in His hands. Perhaps the most beautiful expression of faith is not that we understand everything God is doing, but that we continue to bless Him even when we do not understand. So let the praise of the Lord fill our mornings and accompany us into the night. Let it rise from grateful hearts and from hearts that are still learning to trust. Let it be heard in our worship, reflected in our lives, and carried into the days that lie ahead. For the Lord is worthy of praise, not merely for a moment or a season, but from this time forth and forevermore.
