Seek first the Kingdom of God…

I love to write! We are building a community of readers and writers that share a passion to seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and then everything else will follow. This is a place where we express our writing and imagination for His glory.

Emotional Meditation By Micah Siemens

“Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands” The psalmist reminds us of the emptiness of anything that takes the place of God in our hearts. These idols were made of precious materials, yet they possessed no life or power. Although we may not worship statues of silver and gold today, we can easily make idols out of our possessions, careers, relationships, achievements, and the approval of others. We often look to these things for happiness and security, only to discover that they cannot satisfy the deepest needs of our hearts. Perhaps you have placed your confidence in something you believed would make your life complete, only to experience disappointment when it failed you. The things of this world may have temporary value, but they can never take the place of God. Everything around us can change, but the Lord remains faithful and unchanging. May we examine our hearts and make sure that nothing has taken the place that belongs to Him alone.

“They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see” The psalmist describes the powerlessness of idols. Although they appear to have the features of living beings, they cannot communicate, understand, or respond. What a contrast this presents to our living God, who hears every prayer, sees every tear, and understands every burden we carry. There are moments when we feel unheard, overlooked, or forgotten by those around us. Yet we never have to wonder whether God sees or understands our struggles. He knows the pain we hide behind our smiles and understands the fears we cannot put into words. Perhaps you have been praying about a difficult situation for a long time and have begun to wonder whether God is listening. Do not measure His attentiveness by the speed of His answer. Even when His response does not come when or how we expect, we can rest in the assurance that He has not forgotten us. Our God sees what others overlook and understands what others cannot.

“They have ears, but do not hear; noses, but do not smell” The psalmist continues describing the limitations of idols, reminding us that they cannot hear the cries of those who worship them. Unlike these lifeless objects, our God is never indifferent to the voices of His children. He invites us to bring our concerns before Him and trust Him with every detail of our lives. Sometimes our circumstances become so overwhelming that we struggle to recognize His presence. We pray through tears, wait through difficult seasons, and wonder why the Lord has not intervened as we hoped. Yet God’s silence is never evidence of His inability to hear. He is never too busy to notice our struggles or too distant to understand our pain. Perhaps you are carrying a burden that no one else knows about, or you have been asking God for help while wondering how much longer you must wait. Take comfort in knowing that your prayers are not falling on deaf ears. Continue to seek Him, knowing that the living God hears His children and remains worthy of their trust.

Together, these verses remind us of the emptiness of trusting in anything that cannot give life, hear our prayers, or meet the deepest needs of our souls. Psalm 115:4–6 challenges us to examine where we place our confidence and recognize the difference between lifeless idols and the living God. The things of this world may promise security, happiness, and fulfillment, but they cannot offer the lasting hope that comes from knowing the Lord. Perhaps you have discovered that something you once depended on has failed you, or you are walking through a season when you desperately need to know that God sees and hears you. Remember that you belong to a living God who is never powerless, never unaware, and never indifferent to your struggles. Let us not give our hearts to temporary things, but instead place our confidence in the One who alone is worthy of our worship. The idols of this world cannot answer, but our God hears. They cannot see, but our God sees. They cannot help, but our God is able. May our hearts remain devoted to Him, for He alone is the living God who deserves our trust, our worship, and our praise!
