Emotional Meditation By Micah Siemens
“Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!” The psalmist begins with a powerful reminder that all glory belongs to God, not to us. In a world that constantly encourages us to seek recognition, prove our worth, and receive the praise of others, these words call us back to a life of humility and worship. Every blessing we enjoy, every opportunity we receive, and every strength we possess ultimately comes from the Lord. We may be tempted to take pride in our accomplishments or become discouraged when others fail to recognize our efforts. Yet our lives are not meant to revolve around our own reputation. God deserves the glory because His love never fails and His faithfulness never changes. Perhaps you have been faithfully serving the Lord without receiving appreciation, or you have wondered whether anyone notices your sacrifices. Remember that God’s approval matters more than human recognition. Our greatest joy should not be found in receiving praise but in knowing that our lives bring honor to His name.

“Why should the nations say, ‘Where is their God?’” The psalmist expresses the challenge of living by faith when circumstances seem to suggest that God is absent. The surrounding nations questioned the reality of Israel’s God, perhaps because they could not see His presence or understand His ways. We, too, may face moments when others question our faith because our lives do not appear to reflect the blessings they expect from God. Sometimes our prayers seem unanswered, our struggles continue, and our circumstances make it difficult to explain where God is at work. We may even find ourselves asking that same question in the quietness of our hearts. Yet the absence of visible answers does not mean the absence of God’s presence. His faithfulness is not measured by how quickly our situations improve, nor is His power diminished by the doubts of those who do not believe. When others question our God, may our lives continue to reflect a quiet confidence in His character. We do not need to understand everything He is doing to remain faithful to Him. Even in seasons of uncertainty, we can trust that the Lord has not abandoned His people.
“Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases” With these words, the psalmist declares the sovereignty and authority of God. Unlike the lifeless idols worshiped by the nations, our God is living, reigning, and actively accomplishing His purposes. Nothing is beyond His power, and no circumstance can frustrate His ultimate plans. This truth brings comfort when life feels uncertain and reminds us that we are never at the mercy of circumstances beyond God’s control. We often make plans according to what we can see, but the Lord works from a perspective far greater than ours. There may be doors He closes that we desperately wanted to enter, prayers He answers differently than we expected, and seasons of waiting that test our patience. In those moments, it is easy to wonder why God has allowed certain things to happen. Yet His sovereignty invites us to surrender what we cannot control and trust the wisdom of the One who sees the beginning and the end. His ways may be beyond our understanding, but His character remains trustworthy. We may not always know what tomorrow holds, but we can rest in the assurance that our God reigns over tomorrow.
Together, these verses remind us that our lives belong to a God who is worthy of all glory, whose presence never fails, and whose authority is never threatened. Psalm 115:1–3 calls us away from pride, fear, and the need to control every outcome. It teaches us to live for God’s glory rather than our own recognition, to remain confident in His presence when others question our faith, and to trust His sovereignty when circumstances seem uncertain. Perhaps you are walking through a season when your prayers have not been answered as you hoped, when others misunderstand your faith, or when the future feels beyond your control. Do not allow these struggles to turn your heart away from the Lord. The God who reigns in the heavens is still at work in the details of your life. His love remains steadfast, His faithfulness remains sure, and His purposes remain secure. We may not always understand His timing or recognize His hand at work, but we can continue to trust Him. Let us not seek to make our names great, but instead live in such a way that His name is honored through us. Whether life brings recognition or obscurity, answered prayers or seasons of waiting, may our hearts remain surrendered to Him. For our hope is not in what we can accomplish, but in the God who reigns over all. To Him alone belongs the glory!
