“Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength!” The psalmist extends a universal invitation for all nations and peoples to recognize what has always belonged to God alone. To “ascribe” glory to the Lord is not to add something He lacks but to joyfully acknowledge His infinite worth and supreme authority. Every blessing we enjoy, every breath we take, and every evidence of His sustaining grace points to His greatness. Our lives were created to reflect His glory, and our highest purpose is fulfilled when we gladly honor Him above all else. As our hearts grow in the knowledge of who God is, worship becomes not a reluctant duty but the joyful response of those who have encountered His majesty and love.
“Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts!” True worship always moves beyond words into wholehearted devotion. The offering the psalmist speaks of reflects a heart that willingly gives itself to God in gratitude and love. While the outward expressions of worship may vary, the Lord continually desires hearts that come before Him with sincerity, humility, and thanksgiving. We do not enter His presence to earn His favor but because His grace has already drawn us near. Every act of obedience, every sacrifice of praise, and every gift offered with a willing heart becomes a beautiful expression of love to the God who has first loved us.
“Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth!” The holiness of God fills worship with both reverence and wonder. His perfect purity reveals the beauty of His character and reminds us that there is no one like Him. To tremble before the Lord is not to live in fearful uncertainty but to stand in awe before His greatness, recognizing that we are welcomed into the presence of the holy God through His mercy. Reverence and joy are not opposing realities; they flourish together whenever we truly behold the Lord. The more we understand His holiness, the more deeply we appreciate His grace, and the more earnestly we desire to honor Him with lives that reflect His character.
Psalm 96:7–9 reminds us that worship is the rightful response of every heart and the joyful calling of every believer. God alone is worthy of all glory, honor, and praise, and He graciously invites us into His presence to delight in Him. As we offer Him the devotion of our hearts and the obedience of our lives, we discover that true worship transforms us from the inside out. May we come before the Lord with reverent awe, grateful hearts, and willing spirits, giving Him the glory due His name and finding our deepest joy in the beauty of His holy presence.
