Seek first the Kingdom of God…

I love to write! We are building a community of readers and writers that share a passion to seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and then everything else will follow. This is a place where we express our writing and imagination for His glory.

Emotional Meditation By Micah Siemens

“My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make melody with all my being” Psalm 108 begins with a declaration of inner stability in the presence of God. The psalmist does not say that his circumstances are perfect; he says that his heart is steadfast. There is something deeply comforting about this because our emotions and circumstances can change from one day to the next. Some mornings we wake with confidence, while other days begin with fear, weariness, or uncertainty. Yet the psalmist reminds us that our stability does not have to come from our circumstances. A heart anchored in God can remain steady even when everything around it feels unsettled. Perhaps you are facing a season where you do not know what tomorrow will bring. You may not be able to control what is happening around you, but you can bring your heart before the Lord and ask Him to make it steadfast. He is able to give you an inner strength that circumstances cannot easily shake.

“I will sing and make melody with all my being” Worship becomes the response of a heart that has chosen to trust God. The psalmist is not merely singing because everything is going well; he is deliberately turning his attention toward the Lord. There are times when praise comes naturally, but there are other times when worship is an act of faith. When we praise God in difficult seasons, we are reminding our own hearts that He is still worthy even when life is painful. Perhaps you have experienced moments when you had to worship through tears, pray when you felt empty, or sing when you did not yet see the answer you were waiting for. Those moments are precious because they reveal a faith that is not dependent upon circumstances. Your song may sound different in a season of sorrow, but it can still rise toward heaven. God hears the worship that comes from a heart that chooses to trust Him.

“Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn!” There is energy and intentionality in these words. The psalmist does not wait passively for the morning to arrive; he chooses to meet the dawn with praise. What a beautiful picture for anyone who has endured a long night of uncertainty. There are seasons when darkness seems to last longer than we expected, and we wonder when morning will finally come. Yet the psalmist teaches us that we can prepare our hearts to praise God even before we see the light. Perhaps you are entering another difficult day carrying burdens from yesterday. Before the demands of the day begin, turn your heart toward the Lord. Before fear has an opportunity to speak loudly, remind yourself of God’s faithfulness. You may not be able to change the circumstances waiting for you, but you can choose where your heart will look when the morning comes.

“I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations” The psalmist’s worship is not meant to remain hidden within his own heart. Gratitude naturally becomes something he wants others to hear. When we have experienced God’s faithfulness, our testimony can become an encouragement to people who are still struggling to believe that God is near. You may not have a dramatic story to tell, but even the simple testimony that God sustained you through another difficult day can give hope to someone who feels forgotten. Your faithfulness in prayer, your quiet trust, and your willingness to speak about God’s goodness can become a source of strength to others. Sometimes people need to hear that God is still faithful from someone who has walked through hardship and discovered that the Lord did not abandon them.

“For your steadfast love is great above the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the clouds” The psalmist now gives us the foundation beneath his praise: the steadfast love and faithfulness of God. His confidence is not ultimately rooted in his own strength. It is rooted in the character of the Lord. God’s love is greater than our fears, higher than our circumstances, and deeper than our understanding. His faithfulness does not become smaller when our problems become larger. There may be moments when you feel forgotten, but God’s faithfulness has not changed. There may be days when your prayers seem to rise no higher than the ceiling, but His steadfast love has not moved. We often measure God’s goodness by what is happening in front of us, but Scripture calls us to measure our circumstances by what we know to be true about God. His love is steadfast, and His faithfulness reaches farther than we can see.

“Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!” The psalm ends by lifting the eyes of the worshiper beyond himself and his circumstances toward the greatness of God. This is where a steadfast heart ultimately finds its rest. We may not understand every situation, but we know who deserves the highest place in our hearts. We may not know what tomorrow will bring, but we know the One who will be there when it arrives. Perhaps today you need to move your attention away from the uncertainty surrounding you and once again fix your eyes upon the Lord. Let your heart become steadfast not because you have everything figured out, but because God remains faithful. Let your praise rise before the dawn. Let your gratitude speak even in difficult seasons. And when you cannot see the whole path ahead, remember that the God whose steadfast love reaches the heavens is still worthy of your trust, your worship, and your whole heart.
